Gauranga Mandala is a student who studies in Class 5 in a rural government primary school. Though Gouranga is enrolled in a school, he couldn’t come to school as he helped his parents in their fishing business. One of our educators went to Gauranga’s house to convince his parents. Initially, his parents didn’t agree to send Gouranga to school, but our educator did not give up on him.
Daily after school hours, she went to his house and carried out learning activities with him. Gradually, Gauranga coped up with his studies and started coming to school. In four months, we observed significant improvement in his scores at school.
He says, “I go to fishing with my father every day. But when I return, I find didi (educator) at my home. She comes to my house every day after school. Every day she teaches me new concepts. I realized that even in fishing business, one needs to know counting and calculation.”
