Sima Das is a fourth grader from a remote village in Odisha. Sima is very passionate about learning new things and loves reading books and solving different mathematics problems, but there was a time when her parents didn’t acknowledge her skills. Including Sima, they have four daughters and one son. As a daily wager, her parents go to work in the morning putting responsibility of her younger siblings on her shoulder. Gradually, she had to drop out of school and was heartbroken.
Our educator noticed Sima being irregular to classes, not attentive in the lessons, staying away from friends, then she suddenly stopped coming to school. After speaking with the school teacher, the educator realised the issue and decided to talk with Sima’s parents. Then along with the school teacher she visited Sima’s house and convinced them to send her to school. Initially, her parents did not agree, but she visited frequently and invited them to parental meetings, and there explained the importance of education and how it could open doors for her in the future. She also showed all the projects, assignments, and crafts made by Sima to her parents.
Finally, after much persistence, Sima’s parents agreed and started sending her to school. Now her parents continuously assist her in every way possible and encourage her.
