Sipra Rekha is an educator in a government primary school. Before joining, she used to teach children in her village. From her experience as an educator, she believed managing children is a very difficult task, and they are expected to be hot-headed and punish students for any mischief. It’s been eight months since she joined our program, and she experienced a drastic change in her classroom management skills.
During the training, she learned disciplining students doesn’t require punishment; rather, building rapport and understanding them. Before, she followed the lecture method to teach, but now she ensures to involve every child in activities and praises children for their performances. She also engages parents and conveys to them the progress of their children. Initially, it was difficult for her to adopt these methods, but gradually she adapted and created a friendly atmosphere in the classroom.
She says, “My first day at school was very difficult because I had a different approach to managing students, and the training taught me a better way, yet a different one. But in time, I learned that in a classroom the children need a friend, rather than a teacher”.
