Subhashree

Subhashree from Kendrapara, Odisha is a 2020 ThinkZone Fellow. She was supporting 41 students as a part of ThinkZone’s Home-Based Learning Program when schools were closed during the pandemic.

Subhashree initially found that there was quite a large percentage of parents who were hesitant to try out the activities with their children. To find the root cause, Subhashree called parents everyday along with communicating with village leaders. She found out that the parents were not calling the toll-free number and were not listening to the automated voice calls properly.

She then started motivating parents to dial in the toll-free number in case they missed out on receiving the automated voice call. She then started calling children 4 times a week and explaining the concepts in a simple manner to parents and children.

This approach caught the attention of students and they began to learn in a better way. Subhashree says “When you love something, you spend more time understanding the concepts. There is no need for too much memorization. So, love what you learn. That makes the difference.”
